Weekly Mail...Part Two!

Happy Sunday Readers! As promised I have the second half of my weekly mail ready to go! This batch is mostly postcards--by mostly I mean all but one actual card haha! A lot of the cards are firsts for my collection-both in location and type. It's been a very exciting mail week for the mailbox and so far I have gotten some great feedback on the cards and letters that I sent out!  Let's show off some mail, shall we?

My first card from Brazil makes its way from Mariana. This beautiful coastal view from Rio de Janero shows off a view of Ipanema and Leblon-a popular gathering area for locals as well as tourists. In the background the "Dois Irmaos" Mountains.

 Lora sends a "did you know card" about Kentucky and Thinisha (a California native) sends me a card from her new found home in Aiken, SC! Thanks Ladies!

 Valerie teaches me how to say Preserved Duck Egg Congee ( which is rice porridge with preserved duck egg and pork) and Neesa sends a nifty card with vintage bowling bags. Both are a first for the mailbox and while I'm iffy on the porridge, I really like some of those bags!

A multi-view of Cleveland's waterways makes its way from Rebecca, who lives about 20 minutes from downtown!

Ms. Anderson sends a card from Quantico, VA! Just outside of Washington, D.C., Quantico serves as the Development and Education Command for the U.S. Marine Corps.  Weapons and equipment development programs are also conducted here to meet the needs of the USMC's amphibious operations requirements. How cool! Thank you :)

Samantha in Memphis sends a famous and flashy card from a city known for its food, history and more importantly, Elvis! Such a neat card!

One of my good friends from college sends a card from Gap, France where she is currently living and teaching! The top left shot is is actually the street that she lives on! So far she is enjoying the culture and the mild winter. Great to hear from you, Jackie! I'll send you something fun from OK soon! :)

My first Valentine of the season actually comes from another college pal! Thank you, Orlando, for my first bit of  holiday love! I hope yours is great :)

Okay, this may not count as REAL mail as it didn't come from a friend or a loved one or even a postcard enthusiast, but I thought it was to cute to not share! I already liked my dentist but when this adorable little postcard found it's way in to the house, I liked him even more! Thank goodness for the service providers who use a bit of imagination instead of a plain text message or a pre recorded voice mail!



I hope you all liked the mail that came in this week! I certainly enjoyed everything I got to add to my collection and the messages from friends and strangers who will become friends. I've got a few letters to write back to (I'm actually fairly well caught up for once!!!) and a handful of postcards to get ready for Monday morning. Have a great week and Happy Mailing!

Handful of Postcards!

Well hello there Thursday evening readers! I hope you are all excited for it to finally be Friday--normally I would be but I have to work on Saturday (boo). A handful of awesome postcards made their way to my mailbox this afternoon and the good news is that A) I sent my fair share today and B) I have a few ready to go out tomorrow as well! Lets get to it.



Elsbeth sends a card from Gelderland province. Located in the central east, Gelderland is  the largest province in the Netherlands! The blue, yellow and black flag is that of Gelderland and the red, white, and blue flag depicted is that of the Netherlands.

Tiffani sends an art deco ice gun that was produced by the Opco Company (Los Angeles, CA) from 1920-1940. Thanks Tiff, you should check out the George R Kravis Collection  at the Philbrook Museum of Art .

Julie sends a multi-view from California!

Katie sends a card showcasing the Manchester Cathedral-which is documented to be the first Christian church in Manchester. Thank you Katie--I never thought I would say this but I am glad I got flaked on so that I could get this card :) Good luck with your classes!

Check out the awesome Clara Barton card! One of the first book reports I ever did in school was about her--in fact, I had a little stuffed yellow cat dressed in a nurses uniform (red cross included) who I would read the book too while she took care of the other animals! hahahahhaha! Thank you Ms. Anderson for the great card and the trip down memory lane!

Kate in Michigan sends a photo of Ferris Wheels during the 1949 Michigan state fair in Detroit. I love the reflected image int he water!!

Picture (perfect) Postcard!

Happy Happy Wednesday Folks! I got a little bit of mail in today: one letter and a handful of great postcards! One that came from a Swap-bot pairing!

A "Black and White Postcard" swap lead to this little gem landing in my mailbox. I immediately thought the card was kind of cool, I mean, who sends cards with bees on them? Then, I turned the card over to find out that Ms. Rebecca in Arkansas actually took this picture herself last fall! Rebecca and her family keep bees as a hobby; in this photo our bee is licking up a bit of honey that is too small for us to see with the naked eye. Over the course of her life, this little bee with produce 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey. Man, that's a lot of hard work for only a little reward. Thanks for the info Rebecca and thanks for sharing your Bee with me!

Fat and Happy Mailbox Thursday!!!!!

Today was a pretty darn good day to be my mailbox! I got 8 postcards in total from Postcrossing, Swap-Bot, Walltype and Send Something. Talk about a pretty good spread, huh?

And also in my mailbox today (it wasn't quite as much of a surprise but still) I got the goodies I ordered to surprise other people trips to the mail!

I hope that everyone had a relaxing weekend and that Monday wasn't to hard on anybody ( I don't know about you all but the technology at my workplace defiantly knew it was Monday--can we say 5 computer restarts before 11:00 am?)

The good news is there were a few good pieces of mail to brighten my day!

• Vintage Postcards (dot com)-- the site offers an entire catalogue you can search ranging from Military Action, Magic, Medical, Holidays and more. The cards on this site tend to be on the pricier side, however, this is a perfect resource for the collector.
• Vintage Postcards (dot org)--offering a similar catalogue to search from carnivals and casinos to firefighting and royalty. Some of the cards will cost you a bit but there is plenty to choose from in the 5-25 dollars (USD) range.

• Overnight Prints--postcards (as well as other writing/promotional materials) can be purchased in bulk and customized. Perfect for the trader who wants to have their blog/site/email/other info printed on the cards for the recipient or for the individual who likes to send multiple people the same card as it best represents them or their home.

Saturday = Mail Jackpot!!!

I thought today that I might get a postcard, maybe two if I were very lucky but to my delight I found two loose post cards and two packages of postcards!!!!


First up a Walltype postcard from the every-so-lovely Missive Maven who I have now encountered on quite a few sites, including hers and mine! You are right my dear, days with out mail are horrible days, but thanks to you my mail box was plenty of full! Thank you for the awesome card.

Second at bat we have a Postcrossing card from user SCBath (or Sue) in Minnesota. The card is a photograph of author Maud Hart Lovelace, most famous for her Betsy-Tacy series, who hails from Mankato, MN.

and last (for this post...) I have my first package from the lovely MissK over at Walltype (who you might recall is my first official pen pal!).  MissK is from California and was kind enough to oblige my love of the West coast with two cards from L.A., two from Malibu, one from Santa Monica, and one showing SoCal!

Friday's mail!

I got a few goodies in the mail today all three postcards are from Walltype users. I am really liking this site so far, I only signed up on the third and I have already received 5 cards from users and I expect that many more are on their way!

The first card is from user Checkmate in Virginia. She sent me a vintage Florida postcard! I'm from Florida so I was very excited to find this in my box......harvesting celery

Next, we have a postcard from Misty, whose blog can be found at Confessions of a Pen Thief. We both seem to have a love of books and reading (she works as a librarian) so she decided to send me a lovely view of Ralph Waldo Emerson's house in Concord, Massachusetts....

and finally, in my mail box today was this little number..

sent to me by Emily in Menlo Park, California. This is a picture that she took and edited herself! You can make and edit your own postcards the way Ms. Emily did by going to Simply Postcards.

Unfortunately no mail circulated today, but here is a quick shot of what I am sending out to Postcrossing and Walltype* and a few letter lovers I have been talking to this weekend! Hopefully my mailbox will be full too! :)

I am going to try my hand at a home made card tonight...I'll let you know how it goes--good or bad!

Little Corner of Fun

Hello Hello! This is my first little blog (and first blog post). I have always had a love of getting things in the mail, especially hand written letters or notes from friends or family and I also love to send mailbox surprises. Recently I started using a website called "Postcrossing" to exchange random postcards with people all around the world; I thought I would do a little more exploration to see if other people out there enjoy getting real mail as much as I do--and low and behold I have hit on a goldmine of different people in different locations longing for a little something in their post box.

There are a few links on the side that I think you might find interesting, please bare with me while I get this up and going. I will do my best to let the world know what I'm sending or what I have gotten and to post any links or articles that I come across in my search!

I welcome letters, cards or surprises from anyone who would like to send one and I am more than happy to send you a little something too, just let me know!
